The ex post evaluation of the Sixth Framework Programmes was carried out by a group of international experts supported by an extensive base of evaluation evidence, including studies and statistics. Chaired by Professor Ernst Rietschel, President of the Leibniz Association (one of Germany's big research organisations), the experts carried out their work through a number of meetings held over a six-month period. Their report has been widely disseminated including a presentation to Janez Potočnik the EU Commissioner for Research, Committees of the European Parliament and Council as well as at many meetings of European researchers. It will provide a major input for the development of policy for future Community research activities.
