What does the EU mean for us, the small business?
For small firms and entrepreneurs Europe means a wide range of initiatives that help business. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are the source of 85% of new jobs created in Europe and there are 23 million of them. They make up 99% of all business and 9 out of 10 are microenterprises with fewer than 10 employees. The United Kingdom has 1.5 million microenterprises operating in a competitive business environment that has helped them to take on more employees despite the financial crisis since 2008.
