Competent national authorities

referred to in Article 2(b) of Council Regulation (EC) No 1338/2001

Council Regulation (EC) No 1338/2001, laying down measures necessary for the protection of the euro against counterfeiting, provides for the publication in the Official Journal of the European Communities of the lists of the competent national authorities.

Council Regulation (EC) No 1339/2001 extended the effects of Regulation (EC) No 1338/2001 to the Member States which have not adopted the euro as their single currency.

In line with these Regulations, Member States have designated the authorities competent, at national level, for the fight against counterfeiting.

The Commission, in collaboration with the ECB, compiled the lists of the competent national authorities. These authorities are listed here below, corresponding to the four indents of Article 2(b) of Regulation (EC) No 1338/2001.
