COUNCIL REGULATION (EU) 2026/2446

amending Regulation (EU) 2023/2720 opening and providing for the management of autonomous Union tariff quotas for certain fishery products for the 2024-2026 period

THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION,
Having regard to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, and in particular Article 31 thereof,
Having regard to the proposal from the European Commission,
Whereas:

Council Regulation (EU) 2023/2720 (1) opens and provides for the management of autonomous Union tariff quotas (ATQ) for certain fishery products for the period 2024-2026. That Regulation reduces or suspends import duties for a number of fishery products within tariff quotas of an appropriate volume. Appropriate volumes have been decided for each tariff quota to ensure an adequate supply to the Union industry for that period. The Regulation also defines which processing operations allow the use of the tariff quotas. |

The proposal for a new ATQ Regulation for the application of the autonomous tariff preferences for the next period is still in the process of finalisation due to the incorporation of sustainability conditions aiming at reflecting the sustainability commitments of the Union in the ATQ regime. |

To avoid a gap in the provision of duty-free supplies of fisheries products to the Union, it is necessary to extend the validity of Regulation (EU) 2023/2720 until the end of 2027. |

Regulation (EU) 2023/2720 should therefore be amended accordingly, |
HAS ADOPTED THIS REGULATION:
Article 1
Amendment to Regulation (EU) 2023/2720
Article 6 of Regulation (EU) 2023/2720 is replaced by the following:
‘Article 6
This Regulation shall enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
It shall apply from 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2027.’.
Article 2
Amendment to the Annex to Regulation (EU) 2023/2720
In the table, in the final column entitled ‘Quota period’, each instance of the dates ‘1.1.2024–31.12.2026’ is replaced by the dates ‘1.1.2024–31.12.2027’.
Article 3
Entry into force
This Regulation shall enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
This Regulation shall be binding in its entirety and directly applicable in all Member States.
