It was established by the United Nations Environment Programme and the World Meteorological Organization to provide the world with a clear scientific view on the current state of knowledge in climate change and its potential environmental and socio-economic impacts. The IPCC is a scientific body under the auspices of the United Nations. It reviews and assesses the most recent scientific, technical and socio-economic information produced worldwide relevant to the understanding of climate change. It does not conduct any research nor does it monitor climate related data or parameters. Le Groupe d’experts intergouvernemental sur l’évolution du climat (GIEC) est l’organisme international chef de file pour l’évaluation des changements climatiques. Il a été créé en 1988 par le Programme des Nations Unies pour l’environnement et l’Organisation météorologique mondiale avec pour mission de présenter au monde l’état actuel des connaissances scientifiques sur les changements climatiques et leur incidence potentielle sur l’environnement et la sphère socio-économique. Le GIEC est un organe scientifique. Il a pour mission d’examiner et d’évaluer la littérature scientifique, technique et socio-économique la plus récente publiée dans le monde et utile à la compréhension des changements climatiques.
