This publication provides a statistical portrait of the European Union (EU) in relation to the rest of the world. It begins with a presentation of key indicators for the EU, its largest Member States and the other G20 countries. It then moves on to describe how the EU interacts with the rest of the world, as portrayed through statistical information. The publication closes with a description of the EU’s statistical cooperation activities that are designed to encourage the development and strengthening of statistical systems across the globe. This publication has been produced as a contribution to World Statistics Day (20 October 2010), a United Nations’ initiative that aims to strengthen the public’s awareness of and trust in official statistics and to celebrate the many achievements of the global statistical system.
