Statistics Legal framework for European statistics The statistical law ― 2010 edition

The European statistical system (ESS) has to provide policymakers as well as the general public within the European Union with high-quality statistics. A basic legal framework, in the form of a regulation on European statistics, has been established in order to ensure the efficient functioning of the ESS for that purpose.

This publication aims to describe the main components of that legal framework, also emphasising some tools which are of particular importance for the response of the ESS to future challenges.
