European economic forecast — Spring 2010 European Economy 2/2010

The European Commission publishes comprehensive macroeconomic forecasts twice a year in the spring and autumn. These are presented in the European economic forecast, where the Commission discusses the economic situation and outlook for the euro area and the EU, its 27 Member States, the candidate countries and the EU’s main economic partners. The publication also includes thematic chapters which elaborate in greater detail on issues of relevance for the EU outlook.

Surveillance of intra-euro-area competitiveness and imbalances European Economy 1/2010

The present report is part of the European Commission’s input to the review carried out by the Eurogroup in 2010. It provides a comprehensive assessment of the external performance of euro- area Member States since the launch of the euro. The assessment is broad-based, drawing on the examination of a wide range of indicators. It also includes a review of the domestic imbalances that underlie changes in competitive positions, including excessive growth in private-sector credit and asset prices in some Member States.
