The European Council and the Council Two institutions acting for Europe
This brochure will guide you through the main activities of the European Council and the Council, the two EU institutions composed of representatives of the national governments. Both institutions are assisted in their work by the General Secretariat of the Council.

The European Council in 2010 This publication outlines the activities of the European Council during its first year as an official institution.
In the first part, President Herman Van Rompuy summarises and analyses the main challenges and achievements of the European Council in 2010: preserving the stability of the euro area; creating a new strategy for durable growth and jobs; and strengthening the position of the European Union in the world.
The second part includes the official conclusions of the six European Council meetings and statements by Heads of State or Government.

Internal security strategy for the European Union Towards a European security model
The internal security strategy was adopted under the Spanish Presidency. It is designed to prevent crime and increase the capacity to provide a timely and appropriate response to natural and man-made disasters. This booklet outlines the main challenges for the internal security of the EU and responses to these challenges. The second part describes the development of the European security model.
